FORMULA E / AVANTGARDE
With the first race in Ad Diriyah in Saudi Arabia in December and 12 races continuing throughout 2019 the official Formula E stand needed something not only special, but robust. With six weeks to go before the first race we were commissioned to build a Virtual Reality Formula E Car Configurator, a cycling interactive which enables guests to charge a Formula E battery through pedal power alone and finally a tablet based Race Strategy game.
We built a Unity3D based Car Configurator VR application running on three Oculus Go headsets. By selecting the design style and colour scheme, the application provides guests the creative freedom to design their own Formula E car in real-time. On completing their design, the app presents the guest’s car in a dramatic finish-line scene. Guests can photograph their car and send it to themselves for social sharing.
The cycling interactive is based on a customised an off-the-shelf exercise bike. We added additional switches and electronics to the fly-wheel to measure rotation speed. Alongside with this we created a custom app that translated this information into a speedometer. The screen informs guests how long, based on their current speed it will take to charge a Formula E battery. As different speeds are reached, the screen presents key facts about the Formula E battery.
The strategy game takes the guest through a series of animated race scenarios. The Guest’s reactions are timed with their score and summary being presented at the end of the game.
The digital activations and the Avantgarde designed event stand enable race event guests to immerse themselves into and learn about the Formula E world in a fun and engaging way. Content shared from the Virtual Reality app provides a strong social content trigger directly from the event.
